Different types of counselling

Anxiety Counselling

The tension, worry, persistent thoughts, and inability to relax associated with anxiety can be physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. Fortunately, Counselling is a highly effective treatment.

Depression Counselling

The persistent feeling of sadness, loss of interest, and inability to find satisfaction in those things where you once found pleasure can make life difficult to manage. Although it can often feel impossible working through the underlying causes of your depression in counselling can restore hope and support you to discover the confidence and resilience that you have to deal with the challenges life presents you with.

Low Self-Esteem Counselling

The lack of confidence about who you are and what you can do can often lead to you avoiding social situations or things that you may find challenging. Thankfully, there are various counselling approaches that can offer a solution to support you in rebuilding a sense of engagement with the world.

Trauma Counselling

The flashbacks, nightmares, disrupted sleeping pattern, and accompanying anxiety can be emotionally and physically debilitating. It may feel like there is no escape from the recurring symptoms. Talking through the traumatic events and exploring the issues through well-established counselling techniques is generally regarded as the most effective solution.

What Is Counselling?

Counselling means working together with a professional counsellor, talking through the issues troubling you, and arriving at better and more appropriate perspectives, that allow you to move on, in life. We all need help from time to time, with traumatic events, life changes, relationship difficulties, conflict with family members, and other mental health issues.

Getting independent help from an experienced therapist or appropriate mental health professionals can free your mind from what you thought an event meant, about you, or your life. Speaking to a professional counsellor about your issues gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings, and open up, in a way not usually possible during daily life.

Each in-person session is a safe and supportive space within which to explore and better understand the stress and life issues you face. Understanding the past and coming to peace with it, provides new avenues for the future, you hadn’t realised were there. Many find the experience liberating.

Let’s talk about counselling!

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings to a person trained to listen, in a safe, confidential, and reliable environment.

When things are going well, we feel good about ourselves, we feel comfortable with other people, and we can meet the demands of life. But sometimes we go through difficult times in our lives or we may experience feelings that concern us – grief, fear, loneliness, anger, or guilt. You may be going through a crisis such as a bereavement or a sudden change in a relationship or work. Or it may be that a situation that has gone on for some time suddenly seems unbearable and everything’s getting on top of you.

At these times you may want some help to sort out the problem. Counselling can help you to make sense of what is happening to you and support you through crises in your life. Give us a call to find out more.

Counselling for Individuals

Counselling allows you to talk about your problems, worries and concerns and can help you to deal with and overcome issues that are causing pain or making you unhappy.

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings to a person trained to listen, in a safe, confidential, and reliable environment.

You may be going through a crisis such as bereavement or a sudden change in a relationship or work. At these times you may want some help to sort out the problem. Counselling can help you to make sense of what is happening to you and support you through crises in your life.

At your first meeting, the counsellor will discuss your situation with you to find out if counselling can give you the help you need. During this meeting, the process and expectations of counselling and the relationship between the counsellor and client will be outlined and agreed.

During your counselling sessions, you will be encouraged to express your feelings and emotions freely. The counsellor is there to support you and respect your views and to give you the time to talk through your situation. By discussing your concerns with you, the counsellor can help you to gain a better insight and understanding of your own feelings and what is happening in your life, as well as helping you to identify ways of finding solutions to your problems.

Counselling and Covid-19

Covid-19 has changed our lives. The pandemic created challenges that required innovative solutions. Clear Mind Counselling Therapy is no longer restricted to Counselling in South Wales alone. We now provide Counselling throughout the UK via online and telephone Counselling.

Online or telephone counselling is a relatively new counselling technique where counselling is provided over the telephone or over the internet, usually through a video communication platform like Skype or Zoom. Online or telephone counselling provides you with instant access to your counsellor at the start of your session. The sessions are easily accessible and affordable. There are no travel costs to attend an appointment.

The sessions also take place from the comfort of your own home or any other suitable private location. This increases anonymity, as there is no concern about running into a familiar person when entering or leaving a session.

Arranging an online or telephone appointment is straightforward. Online and telephone Counselling with our Counsellor is available anywhere in the UK. We are here to support you. We offer a Free Counselling Consultation by telephone for 20 Minutes to see if we are a good fit for you.

You can have access to our service no matter where you are. Counselling is just one click away! By using teleconferencing software such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Facetime, we can offer you counselling sessions. There is no rushing through traffic to get to our consulting rooms, there are no issues about trying to get childminders, and there’s no reason to cancel your session if you’re away on business. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer and you can receive our expert help and advice.

Sometimes we need a little help.

Feel like you’ve lost control? Undergoing a big change? Need to talk to a professional? Clear Mind Counselling Therapy can help you.

You might be considering counselling if you’re feeling depressed or anxious, you’ve experienced grief or loss, your relationships feel strained, or if you’d like to process events from your past or present.

People also find counselling helpful if they are experiencing unexpected mood swings, their sleeping patterns are off, or if they are looking for an alternative to drugs or alcohol to cope with issues in their life.

I’m trained to work with a range of presenting concerns. My role as a therapist is to work with you to help you find ways to cope with issues in your life.

While it can be valuable to talk about your problems with close friends and family members, sometimes the people around you aren’t able to provide the help you need. As a qualified professional, I’ll listen to you and help you to understand yourself better, so you can make positive changes in your life.

You are not alone!

Therapy is an opportunity to work on things in your life, and to find more satisfying and rewarding ways of living. At Clear Mind Counselling Therapy we offer you a safe, confidential space where you can talk about yourself and your life.

Counselling will offer you an opportunity to think and talk about yourself and your concerns in a way that you often can’t do with family and friends. You will be offered a place and time which is just for you to talk about those things that bother you. I work hard to create a good therapeutic relationship with you so that we can work well together. I understand that it is not always easy to talk about problems and express your feelings.

I will listen to the way you feel and how this affects you and others in your life. At Clear Mind Counselling Therapy I accept the way you are without judging you and support you to make the changes you would like to happen.

Why seek help from a counsellor?

Life challenges us in many ways and people experience difficulties or problems at some time in their lives. We can become overwhelmed and confused within certain situations; we may notice increasing anxiety and panic; we may have relationship issues; we can struggle with illness, death, loss, change, and transitions. We can have difficulty in finding answers and directions that feel right for us. There may also be some areas of our lives that we would like to understand more clearly, change or improve. These are some of the challenges faced in everyday life that clients bring to counselling.

Counselling offers an opportunity to express ourselves without fear of judgement and to be able to look at ourselves and our lives in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. It can help us to see things from different perspectives while allowing space to clarify our own thoughts and feelings. With a clearer understanding, different choices can be explored and made. Working with a counsellor can also be helpful in developing new strategies and ways of problem-solving.

From my easily accessible venue in Maesteg, South Wales, I aim to provide a confidential, caring space where clients feel free to express themselves, in the clear knowledge that they will be heard and accepted without judgement. Within this safe working relationship, clients have the opportunity to understand themselves more fully and bring about the changes and life choices that, on an individual basis, feel beneficial for them.

Generally, counselling helps people improve their sense of well-being, alleviate their distress, resolve their crises, increase their ability to solve problems, see other opinions, and empower them to make their own decisions.

Counselling helps people struggling with everyday issues who may need additional support to help them through challenging events in their life or identify negative patterns of relating or behaviour in order to develop more positive strategies and patterns going forward.

My role is to help you make sense of what is happening and not just label your experience. I believe the key to success is through the relationship of therapist and client and I work towards a carefully boundaried relationship where you can feel safe, tell your story, and really be listened to. I offer empathy and space where you can feel valued and talk in comfortable surroundings.

What to expect from your first counselling session.

During your first counselling session, your counsellor will:

• Assess the nature of the challenges and issues you are presenting
• Find out what you want to achieve
• Encourage you to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have before committing to a counselling process
• Allow you to get a feel for what counselling involves and how you will benefit
• Discuss the practicalities of counselling by looking at times, number and the length of each individual session required.

I aim to ensure that every client feels safe in the knowledge that they have found a professional organisation that understands the challenges and concerns they face when they decide to seek assistance.

I am a firm believer that counselling isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ process. The relationship between counsellor and client must be based on trust, empathy and respect. A counsellor is trained to listen not to judge or blame, which brings a great sense of relief to clients who are seeking answers and resolution. Counselling helps to establish a better way of relating to yourself and others. That’s exactly what I aim to do at Clear Mind Counselling Therapy.
